What is Dine-In and Take-Out?*
The feature allows you to apply the correct VAT on products based on whether the order is for takeaway or dining in.
In Germany, takeaway orders are subject to a 7% VAT rate, while dine-in orders are taxed at 19%. Some items, such as drinks, are always taxed at 19%. The Dine-In and Take-Out feature gives you the opportunity to manage these differences accurately, ensuring compliance with VAT requirements.
To set up Dine-In and Take-Out as a new customer, follow these steps:
1. Enable the Feature
Go to the Customer Portal under Settings, then open the Takeaway tab. Here, you can enable or disable the Dine-In and Take-Out feature and set the default order type (Dine-In or Take-Out).
2. Configure VAT Options
Open the POS dropdown menu, go to Settings, then open the VAT tab. Create two VAT options: one for Dine-In at 19% and another for Take-Out at 7%.
3. Set Up a Category with Dine-In/Take-Out
Go to Categories and create a new category. Name the category and set the standard VAT to the Dine-In option (19%). Select the Take-Out VAT (7%) as the alternative option.
4. Add Products to the Category
Go to Products and create a new product. Choose the category with Dine-In/Dine-Out enabled. Ensure “Standard VAT” is selected, which will automatically apply the two VAT options for Dine-In and Take-Out. Fill in the rest of the product information (name, price, costs).
If You’re an Existing Merchant with Existing Products: If you already have products and categories set up and want to use the Dine-In/Take-Out feature, follow Steps 1 and 2 above, then update the standard VAT on each relevant category to activate the feature.
Final Step: Fetch App Data on the POS
After making changes in the customer portal, fetch the app data on the POS to apply updates.
To fetch app data:
- 1.On the POS, open the menu by selecting the three horizontal lines in the top right corner.
- 2.Go to Settings.
- 3.Select Fetch App Data by pressing Update at the bottom.
And that’s it! Your Dine-In/Take-Out feature is now set up, and your POS system will apply the correct VAT rates for each order type.
*This feature only applies for Germany
