Understanding Z Reports on your payment terminal

Modified on Fri, 16 May at 4:28 PM

Here is a guide to understanding Z Reports and their role in providing a sales overview.

What is a Z Report?

A Z Report is a detailed summary of all transactions that took place on a payment system during a specific business day. It’s typically used for end-of-day reporting and accounting.

Where can I find my Z Report?

You can access your Z Reports from two places:

  1. Directly from your terminal
You can see current and past Z Reports on your terminal by going to the 'History' tab and then to 'Saved Z Reports'. You can also print them out by selecting the report you want to print out and pressing 'confirm'.
  2. From your customer portal
Once logged in, press the 'Z Reports' point on the menu to the left. Here you can access, download and export Z Reports from all your terminals.

How to read a printed Z Report

Here's a breakdown of the different points on your Z Report:

  • TSN
TSN is the Terminal Serial Number. This is the unique number referring to the terminal that has printed the Z Report.

  • Date and Time
Date and time are for when the Z Report was printed.

  • Currency
The currency in which the transactions have been processed, and will be shown in.

  • Sale
This is the number of sales transactions made since the last Z Report was printed, as well as its total processed volume in the local currency.

  • Refund
This is the number of refund transactions made since the last Z Report was printed, as well as its total processed volume in the local currency.

  • Net total
This is the total amount of transactions, both refunds and sales, made since the last Z Report was printed. The volume presented on the right, is the net received amount. Sales minus refunds equals net received.

  • Tip
This is the number of times tips have been applied to transactions made since the last Z Report was printed, as well as its total processed volume in the local currency.

  • Surcharge
This is the number of times surcharge has been applied to transactions made since the last Z Report was printed, as well as its total processed volume in the local currency. See our full article on Surcharge.

  • Split between different card types, volume and amount.
Split between card suppliers will show the number of times and total volume of the cards used for transactions. This will only be printed on the first Z Report, and not when printed from “history”.
